Brian Murphy, Republican candidate for Maryland Governor, has selected a running mate whose experiences and expertise perfectly complement his own. Mike Ryman has served the United States with distinction, including duty in the United States Marine Corps, the FBI, the Office of Federal Inspectors General, and as a Congressional Investigator and currently serves as a college forensics professor.
EXPERIENCED FEDERAL EXECUTIVE
Mike is an experienced leader in the Executive and Legislative Branches of the Federal Government. A retired Federal Senior Executive Service (SES) law enforcement officer, his management and executive experience spans over 25 years of service as a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps, a Special Agent of the FBI, and as an Assistant Inspector General in three Executive Branch Departments-- U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and U.S. Department of Labor.
EXPERIENCED LEGISLATIVE PROFESSIONAL
Mike capped his Federal career as Chief Investigator and Senior Policy Advisor to the Committee on Government Operations with the U. S. House of Representatives. He conducted numerous surveys, investigations, hearings, and policy reviews on the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of a variety of programs, functions, and activities and studied their impact on state and local governments, business, and industry.
EXPERIENCED BUSINESS LEADER
Mike is also an experienced leader in the business sector. As a self-employed consultant for business safeguards, practices and risk management, he has designed and developed effective systems and processes to reduce risk to business enterprises. He has put into practice a wide variety of ethics, compliance, and loss prevention programs for health care (Medicare/Medicaid/third party administrator for a national union), banking, and manufacturing companies. He was also Chief Compliance Officer/Chief Operating Officer for an import-export company.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa and a Master’s degree in business management from Central Michigan University. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and Regent Emeritus, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Mike has been married to Margaret Mary Walsh for 44 years and is the proud father of four adult women and a grandfather of five. He has been active in his church, St. Patrick’s, Norbeck, MD and many civic organizations.
