Murphy Pledges Not to Raise Taxes: Challenges Ehrlich and O’Malley to Join Him
Crofton, Maryland – Brian Murphy, Republican candidate for governor of Maryland, today reaffirmed his commitment not to raise taxes. He also challenged Bob Ehrlich and Martin O’Malley to do the same.
“In spite of Maryland’s talented workforce, the state faces record unemployment. Our problems can be traced back to the failed policies of the last eight years. The Ehrlich-O’Malley administration combined record spending growth, record tax increases, record job loss, record deficits, and record unemployment. Instead of taking responsibility and offering solutions, my opponents seem content to point fingers at each other. They act as if they don’t think we’re smart enough to figure out they are both to blame,” said Murphy.
“Thanks to the Ehrlich-O’Malley administration, next year Maryland will face a record deficit. We need a governor who has had a real job, and who will run the government like a business or home. Our government must live within its means. We already have one of the highest tax rates in the country, so our government has plenty of money. The worst thing we can do is to raise taxes, and this is why I have made the commitment not to raise a single tax or fee,” he stated.
“Why won’t O’Malley and Ehrlich make the same commitment? A vote for either of them is a vote for continued reckless spending and job destruction. Maryland residents are making tough choices. They expect the same from their government,” said Murphy.
“While Maryland families are worried about losing their homes, my opponents seem focused on which one of them will get to live in the governor’s mansion. Marylanders have had enough of that kind of elitist behavior. It’s time we take Maryland in a new direction and send both of these guys into the real world,” said Murphy.
Brian Murphy and Robert Ehrlich are running in the Republican Primary on September 14. Martin O’Malley is running in the Democratic Party Primary on September 14. The winners of the respective parties’ elections will square off against each other in the November 2 General Election.
